Our compact 3-bedroom countryside cottage is a 45 min drive from Amsterdam, in the middle of nowhere. Located on a diverse Recreational Park with neighbors on both side, a path and a magnificent view on the other sides, as you overlook the fields: Holland in its purest form! Our cottage is older but lovely, we have fixed it up and we keep on (endlessly) fixing it up as old houses simply require. Don't expect high end.

Fits up to 6 people + 1 baby

Location

Our older cottage is located on a Recreational Park with a private parking area, 1 car can park here per house - additional cars have to be parked on the dyke.

Entrance

There is a car-free path leading to all the cottages on the park. There are new cottages, old cottages, some deserted, some work-in-progress...

There's a creek between our cottage and the fields (guarded by a fence). There are trees and bushes and a fence around the lawn which surrounds the house and give privacy. There is about 550m2 private ground, and there is an outdoor playhouse, sandbox, swing + big trampoline. The garden is not groomed but raw. Kids can play with loose bricks, hide between bushes, discover paths between the trees etc...

You enter the house in a hallway, where you find the 1st toilet (2nd one upstairs). Here you can take of your jackets and shoes (no shoes allowed in the house please).

You can take a cart (entrance of the path) that you can use to bring your luggage to and from the house. Please return the cart immediately after unloading (so other people can use it too).

Our cottage is nr20: on the left side, a light blue house with a red roof, more or less in the middle. Do not expect a clean-cut sterile design-y resort villa, but a cottage that has a personal touch and feel to it, it has "stuff" (books, toys, vases, plants....), and yes, it has flaws and failures: its old! It's used! We like this "at home"-like atmosphere!

Please note that the house might not be comfortable and/or suited for the elderly; it could feel small/tight, the beds are low, there is no walk-in shower but a bathtub only, there are no "comfortable" chairs and there is a steep stair to go up. Also note that it is a wooden house, and the walls are very thin. Additionally, the walk from the parking lot to the house is about 300 meters.

Please also note that Internet is slow and not suitable for watching/downloading movies, only intended for checking in on emails. If you want to watch movies, make sure you download them at home already, to watch them here in the house. There are dvd's in the house that you can watch aswell.
if you cant find the network, please turn the modem on and off again.
And yes, there are spiders, flies, ants... insects! YES, you are on the countryside. We choose to not use poison, we accept it the way it is.
Last but not least, please treat our home as you would your own.

*It's only a minute walk to the big Markermeer Lake.
*Simply cross the street from the parking, walk up the dyke, and the big Markermeer lake opens up to you.
*When you walk some minutes to the right, you'll find a waterfront park, down at the lake, which is a great place for a picnic, to play with a kite, sunbath, and for a swim in the lake.
*A walk on the dyke is highly recommended in the evening, during sunset, as it gets a magical touch (or early morning...).
*The drive from the house/bungslow park to the city of Hoorn, while staying on the dyke next to the lake, is breathtaking. We love this small detour when we drive back to Amsterdam.
*There is a tiny picturesque village/community named Oosterleek (less then 100 inhabitants, there are no shops. You can walk to / through this village, also with kids (about a 20 min walk). Oosterleek is the resting place of the Wesfriese Omringdijk between the VOC towns of Hoorn and Enkhuizen.
*The dyke is the starting point for cycling or hiking through a varied landscape of orchards, colorful tulip fields, pastures with cattle and picturesque villages famous for the West Frisian bell farms.
